Comparing child growth between small-for-gestational age twins and singletons in the upstate KIDS cohort

چکیده

Twins have an increased risk of being small-for-gestational-age (SGA) at birth compared to singletons, but little is known about their growth in childhood. It’s hypothesized that the maternal-fetal unit may become less capable sustaining optimal twin fetuses starting around 32 weeks indicating some smaller size be due adaptation. Whether SGA twins show same postnatal patterns as singletons born SGA, who growth-restricted, unknown. Upstate KIDS collected longitudinal data on child among and singletons. We used linear mixed models compare z scores for height, weight, BMI 0-3 7-9 years age appropriate-for-gestational (AGA) two groups (Figure): uncertain (< 10th percentile birthweight by a singleton reference >10th% reference) true 10th% reference). complicated 9% 29% births using reference. Compared were shorter (β= -0.93; CI -1.06, -0.81) weighed -0.74; -0.83, -0.66) years, while similar (Table). Beta (β) indicates mean difference between groups. By singletons; tended larger than weight (β=0.30; -0.04, 0.65) height (β=0.25; -0.17, 0.67), though differences not significant. Though high percentage classified did follow those are SGA. True slightly toddlerhood, years. In contrast, different phenotype consistent with utero physiologic adaptation.View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)

Intergenerational Cohort Study of Preterm and Small-for-Gestational-Age Birth in Twins and Singletons.

To date, several studies have investigated the intergenerational effect of preterm and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) births. However, most studies excluded both twin mothers and twin offspring from the analyses. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the intergenerational effect of preterm birth and SGA births among twins and singletons. A prospective population-based register s...

Vanishing twins: a predictor of small-for-gestational age in IVF singletons.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of a vanishing twin on the risk of being small-for-gestational age (SGA) in in vitro fertilization (IVF) singletons. METHODS The study included 642 survivors of a vanished co-twin, 5237 primary singletons and 3678 primary twins. The survivor cohort was subdivided according to gestational age at the time of vanishing to give groups ...

Comparative Study of Cord Lipid Profile in Small for Gestational Age and Appropriate for Gestational Age Newborn

Background: This study was conducted to compare the cord blood lipid profile in term small for gestation (SGA) and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) babies as determination of cord blood lipid profile is useful screening tool for early detection of babies at higher risk as atherosclerosis has its genesis in childhood. Methods: Study Design: Hospital based cross sectional study. Setting: ne...

Gestational age in twins.

Dubowitz et al. have offered a scoring system for estimating the gestational age of newborn babies. If the system is applied to twin pairs, the heavier twin is generally estimated to have a greater gestational age than the lighter one. Previously this has been interpreted as a flaw in the scoring system. However, it may well be that in some twin pairs the gestational ages are slightly different...

The Relationship between Small for Gestational Age (SGA) at Birth and Developmental Delay in Children Aged 4 to 60 Months

Background Progress in medical science and success in increasing the survival rate of vulnerable infants have raised the issue of future development in these children. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between small for gestational age (SGA) status at birth and developmental delay in children aged 4 to 60 months. Materials and Methods This study was a correlation descriptive thro...
